Luxury
The standard of service is known to be high in the Maldives. The luxury hotels include (Milaidhoo Island a boutique luxury resort in the Baa Atoll with beautiful pool villas, and the award-winning Gili Lankanfushi Resort situated on a private island). The exclusive villas with private butlers and super secluded water villas are reached only by boat.
Transfers & getting around
Your hotel transfer is a huge part of your holiday experience in the Maldives, to reach your private island resort you’ll get to travel by speedboat or seaplane. There are domestic flights option too.
After you arrive at Velana International Airport in the Maldives, your speedboat will arrive at the jetty just across the road from the terminal. Speedboats are operated by individual resorts and come in various forms, but all offer a comfortable start to your holiday. On route to your resort, you will pass other islands and tiny uninhabited “picnic islands”, and it’s worth keeping a lookout for marine life including dolphins.
For the islands more than an hour and a half away by speed boat from the airport, we generally recommend a seaplane transfer. A seaplane is far quicker at getting you from A to B, and another advantage is that the seaplane transfers give you thrilling and spectacular aerial views and they operate during daylight hours. The seaplane terminal is just a short bus ride from the airport.
Seaplanes in the Maldives are small, and you’ll be sharing this experience with around 15 other passengers. Often, stops are made to pick up/drop off guests at other resorts on the route. It is to be noted that most seaplanes have a luggage limit of 20kg per person and adverse weather can cause delays.
Food & drink
The traditional Maldivian cuisine is based on fish, coconut, and rice as the main constituent, but you’ll find many islands offering flavours from all around the globe. It goes without saying that seafood dishes top the menus.
The private dining experience with candlelit dinners with lobsters on the menu is very popular. The general standard of food and drink on a Maldives holiday is excellent with well-stocked wine cellars, many islands offer a choice of buffet and à la carte restaurants.
(Private dining at Dining at Ithaa on Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is an experience, this is the iconic underwater restaurant located 16 feet below the ocean’s surface. At Niyama Private Islands you can dine six meters below the ocean’s surface at Subsix. If you prefer to go higher amongst the treetops, then dine at the Nest.)
