Early background
The founders of Peacock Tours are a wife and husband team, Niranjala and Prakash, who were born and bred in Sri Lanka. Niranjala is a Singhalese born in the southern part of Sri Lanka, and Prakash a Tamil, born in the northern part of the island.
They left the island for university in the United Kingdom with the intention to return home at the end of their studies. However, as circumstances changed in Sri Lanka in the mid-1980s,they made the United Kingdom their adoptive home and pursued careers as accountants.
Passion for cooking Sri Lankan Food
As overseas students, cooking their own food was a necessity that developed into a passion. After several years, their desire to open and run a Sri Lankan restaurant materialised in 2005. The restaurant went on to win several awards, including “The Cobra Good Curry Guide” award for ‘Best Sri Lankan Restaurant in the UK.’
“Sri Lanka The Cookbook” and the Edinburgh International Book Festival
Niranjala and Prakash co-authored and published “Sri Lanka: The Cookbook” in London in 2017. This book was selected by the Edinburgh International Festival to be presented at the festival in the same year. It is worth noting that the book is currently the best-selling Sri Lankan cookery book in English. Niranjala and Prakash take pride in being ambassadors for Sri Lankan cuisine and heritage.

Passion for travel
Niranajla and Prakash are enthusiastic travellers, with Sri Lanka being their main destination – they travel there at least once a year, sometimes twice, as the Island is their place of birth, and their home away from home. Niranjala and Prakash are also passionate global travellers, in addition to having had a chance to live in Paris for a year during their student days, they have travelled to a number of countries over the years including India, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand.
Their passion for travel and their deep knowledge of the whole of Sri Lanka, its history, heritage, and terrain have made them get involved in organising “Tailor-Made” Luxury holidays initially to Sri Lanka and to nearby Maldives islands and now they have added Mauritius and Seychelles in the Indian Ocean to their holiday destinations.
