Malaysia - Accommodation
Tabin Wildlife Resort
Borneo - Sarawak
Overview
Located within the remote Tabin Wildlife Reserve, Tabin Wildlife Resort offers an immersive experience in one of Sabah’s lesser-visited conservation areas. Surrounded by dense rainforest and rich in biodiversity, the setting feels wild and untouched, with a strong emphasis on conservation and wildlife observation.
The accommodation is simple and in keeping with the natural surroundings, with wooden chalets set amongst the forest. Rooms are functional rather than luxurious, providing a comfortable base after time spent exploring the reserve.
Days here are centred on guided activities, including jungle treks, visits to the area’s distinctive mud volcanoes, and river exploration. Tabin is particularly known for its birdlife and as a habitat for a variety of mammals, and night drives or walks offer a chance to encounter more elusive species. The experience is led by knowledgeable guides who bring context and depth to each outing.
The lodge itself has a relaxed and informal atmosphere, with meals served in a communal setting and downtime spent listening to the sounds of the surrounding forest. The focus is very much on nature, rather than amenities.
Our Perspective
Tabin Wildlife Resort is best suited to those with a strong interest in wildlife and conservation. Comfort is modest, but the access to a quieter, less-visited reserve makes it a rewarding alternative to more well-known areas, offering a deeper and more off-the-beaten-path experience of Borneo.
