Overview
The game of golf was first introduced to Ceylon as it was then known in 1879. There are now four 18 Hole Championship golf courses on the island.
The Royal Colombo Golf Club is the oldest golf club was established in 1880, it is in the capital city of Colombo and is home to the Sri Lanka Golf Union, the governing body of Golf in Sri Lanka. It is an 18-hole, 6,399 yds, slope 127, and par 71(M) 72 (L) layout. You would also find a railway track running through the course.
The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club is the second oldest Golf club in Sri Lanka, established in 1889 in a hill station, it was then a hunting lodge for the British Coffee and Tea Planters in the late 19th century.
The course covers approximately 100 acres of land and was originally built amidst tea plantations. The course is located at an altitude of just over 6,000 ft above sea level. It is an 18-hole, 6,399 yds, slope 129 par 70 (M) 72 (L) layout.
