Northwest
Overview
A little further north of Negombo is a town called Chilaw. There is “Muneeswaram Kovil,” an ancient Hindu temple and one of five ‘Eeswaram’ temples on the island specially dedicated to Lord Siva. Hindus flock to this temple in large numbers during its festive seasons.
North of Muneeswaram we come to Puttalam Lagoon, one of the largest on the island, and adjoining is a long narrow peninsula with a land space something similar to the tip of Long Island, New York, leading to Kalpity Beach. A collection of 14 islands and beaches is truly gifted with scenic beauty. A must-visit beach if you are anywhere near Puttalam and there are pleasant resorts to stay in too.
