Overview
Visalam is a beautiful heritage mansion delightfully converted into a boutique hotel in Chettinad. Each of the 15 heritage spacious guest rooms with modern conveniences is uniquely decorated with antiques, vintage photographs, and local textiles, and has large windows overlooking bougainvillea-brightened gardens.
The central courtyard surrounded by colonnades and featuring traditional tiles transports you to the opulent time of the Chettiar (Merchant) lifestyle. Hidden within the garden is an outdoor pool with bubble jets, located next to the dining area.
There are four eateries, each open at different times of day. The Terrace and Grill Restaurant serves the boldly spiced dishes of Chettinad at dinner each night on the terrace overlooking the garden and pool.
At the Saapad Shaala (dining room), lunches of rice dishes and local specialties are served in banana leaves for guests to eat with their choice of hands or forks. Throughout the day, peckish guests can grab light snacks at the covered Pool Side Café. Even try your hand at cooking by attending the hotel’s culinary demonstration.
